John 7:12

7:12 There was ¹  a lot of grumbling ²  about him among the crowds. ³  Some were saying, “He is a good man,” but others, “He deceives the common people.” ⁴ 

John 19:10

19:10 So Pilate said, ⁵  “Do you refuse to speak to me? Don’t you know I have the authority ⁶  to release you, and to crucify you?” ⁷ 

¹ tn Grk “And there was.”

² tn Or “complaining.”

³ tn Or “among the common people” (as opposed to the religious authorities mentioned in the previous verse).

⁴ tn Or “the crowd.”

⁵ tn Grk “said to him.” The words “to him” are not translated because they are unnecessary in contemporary English style.

⁶ tn Or “the power.”

⁷ tn Grk “know that I have the authority to release you and the authority to crucify you.” Repetition of “the authority” is unnecessarily redundant English style.
