John 7:12

7:12 There was a lot of grumbling about him among the crowds. Some were saying, “He is a good man,” but others, “He deceives the common people.”

John 19:10

19:10 So Pilate said, “Do you refuse to speak to me? Don’t you know I have the authority to release you, and to crucify you?”

tn Grk “And there was.”

tn Or “complaining.”

tn Or “among the common people” (as opposed to the religious authorities mentioned in the previous verse).

tn Or “the crowd.”

tn Grk “said to him.” The words “to him” are not translated because they are unnecessary in contemporary English style.

tn Or “the power.”

tn Grk “know that I have the authority to release you and the authority to crucify you.” Repetition of “the authority” is unnecessarily redundant English style.
