7:40 When they heard these words, some of the crowd ¹  began to say, “This really ²  is the Prophet!” ³

19:13 When Pilate heard these words he brought Jesus outside and sat down on the judgment seat ⁴  in the place called “The Stone Pavement” ⁵  (Gabbatha in ⁶  Aramaic). ⁷ 

¹ tn Or “The common people” (as opposed to the religious authorities like the chief priests and Pharisees).

² tn Or “truly.”

³ sn The Prophet is a reference to the “prophet like Moses” of Deut 18:15, by this time an eschatological figure in popular belief.

⁴ tn Or “the judge’s seat.”

⁵ sn The precise location of the place called ‘The Stone Pavement’ is still uncertain, although a paved court on the lower level of the Fortress Antonia has been suggested. It is not certain whether it was laid prior to a.d. 135, however.
