Joshua 1:3

1:3 I am handing over to you every place you set foot, as I promised Moses.¹

Joshua 9:5

9:5 They had worn-out, patched sandals on their feet and dressed in worn-out clothes. All their bread² was dry and hard.³

Joshua 4:9

4:9 Joshua also set up twelve stones¹⁴ in the middle of the Jordan in the very place where the priests carrying the ark of the covenant stood. They remain there to this very day.

Joshua 4:18

4:18 The priests carrying the ark of the covenant of the Lord came up from the middle of the Jordan, and as soon as they set foot on dry land,¹⁵ the water of the Jordan flowed again and returned to flood stage.¹⁶

Joshua 5:15

5:15 The commander of the Lord’s army answered Joshua, “Remove your sandals from your feet, because the place where you stand is holy.” Joshua did so.

Joshua 14:9

14:9 That day Moses made this solemn promise:¹⁷ ‘Surely the land on which you walked¹⁸ will belong to you and your descendants permanently,¹⁹ for you remained loyal to the Lord your God.’

¹tn Heb “Every place on which the sole of your foot walks, to you I have given it, as I said to Moses.” The second person pronouns in vv. 3-4 are plural, indicating that all the people are addressed here. The verbal form נְתַתִּיו (nÿtattiv, “I have given it”) is probably a perfect of certitude, emphasizing the certainty of the action. Another option is to translate, “I have already assigned it.” In this case the verb would probably refer to the Lord’s decree to Abraham that he would give this land to his descendants.
