Joshua 1:8

1:8 This law scroll must not leave your lips! You must memorize it day and night so you can carefully obey all that is written in it. Then you will prosper and be successful.

Joshua 10:12

10:12 The day the Lord delivered the Amorites over to the Israelites, Joshua prayed to the Lord before Israel:

“O sun, stand still over Gibeon!

O moon, over the Valley of Aijalon!”

Joshua 20:6

20:6 He must remain in that city until his case is decided by the assembly and the high priest dies. Then the one who committed manslaughter may return home to the city from which he escaped.” 10

tn Heb “mouth.”

tn Heb “read it in undertones,” or “recite it quietly” (see HALOT 1:237).

tn Heb “be careful to do.”

tn Heb “you will make your way prosperous.”

tn Heb “and be wise,” but the word can mean “be successful” by metonymy.

tn Heb “Then Joshua spoke to the Lord in the day the Lord placed the Amorites before the sons of Israel and he said in the eyes of Israel.” It is uncertain whether the phrase “before the sons of Israel” modifies the verb “placed” (as in the present translation, “delivered the Amorites over to the Israelites”) or the verb “spoke” (“Joshua spoke to the Lord before the sons of Israel in the day the Lord delivered over the Amorites”).

11 tn Or “live.”

12 tn Heb “until he stands before the assembly for judgment.”

13 tn Heb “until the death of the high priest who is in those days.”

14 tn Heb “may return and enter his city and his house, the city from which he escaped.”
