Joshua 22:33

22:33 The Israelites were satisfied with their report and gave thanks to God. ⁹  They said nothing more about launching an attack to destroy the land in which the Reubenites and Gadites lived. ¹⁰

Joshua 24:17

24:17 For the Lord our God took us and our fathers out of slavery ¹⁶  in the land of Egypt ¹⁷  and performed these awesome miracles ¹⁸  before our very eyes. He continually protected us as we traveled and when we passed through nations. ¹⁹

And look, a man was standing in front of him, and his sword was drawn in his hand.” The verb הִנֵּה (hinneh, “look”) invites the reader to view the scene through Joshua’s eyes. By calling the stranger “a man,” the author reflects Joshua’s perspective. The text shortly reveals his true identity (vv. 14-15).

³ tn Heb “Then Joshua spoke to the Lord in the day the Lord placed the Amorites before the sons of Israel and he said in the eyes of Israel.” It is uncertain whether the phrase “before the sons of Israel” modifies the verb “placed” (as in the present translation, “delivered the Amorites over to the Israelites”) or the verb “spoke” (“Joshua spoke to the Lord before the sons of Israel in the day the Lord delivered over the Amorites”).
