7:22 Joshua sent messengers who ran to the tent. The things were hidden right in his tent, with the silver underneath. 2
1 tn Or “Gibeath Haaraloth.” This name means “Hill of the Foreskins.” Many modern translations simply give the Hebrew name, although an explanatory note giving the meaning of the name is often included.
2 tn Heb “Look, [it was] hidden in his tent, and the silver was beneath it.”
3 tn Heb “Joshua and all the people of war with him came upon them at the Waters of Merom suddenly and fell upon them.”
4 tn The infinitive absolute follows the finite verb in the Hebrew text and indicates continuation or repetition of the action. Balaam pronounced several oracles of blessing over Israel (see Num 23-24).
5 tn Heb “blessing.” Balaam’s “blessings” were actually prophecies of how God would prosper Israel.
6 tn Heb “hand.”
