Joshua 8:1

Israel Conquers Ai

8:1 The Lord told Joshua, “Don’t be afraid and don’t panic! ¹  Take the whole army with you and march against Ai! ²  See, I am handing over to you ³  the king of Ai, along with his people, city, and land.

Joshua 8:31

8:31 just as Moses the Lord’s servant had commanded the Israelites. As described in the law scroll of Moses, it was made with uncut stones untouched by an iron tool. ⁴  They offered burnt sacrifices on it and sacrificed tokens of peace. ⁵ 

Joshua 10:27

10:27 At sunset Joshua ordered his men to take them down from the trees. ⁶  They threw them into the cave where they had hidden and piled large stones over the mouth of the cave. (They remain to this very day.) ⁷

15:8 It then went up the Valley of Ben Hinnom to the slope of the Jebusites on the south (that is, Jerusalem), ⁸  going up to the top of the hill opposite the Valley of Ben Hinnom to the west, which is at the end of the Valley of the Rephaites to the north.

Joshua 24:7

24:7 Your fathers ⁹  cried out for help to the Lord; he made the area between you and the Egyptians dark, ¹⁰  and then drowned them in the sea. ¹¹  You witnessed with your very own eyes ¹²  what I did in Egypt. You lived in the wilderness for a long time. ¹³

³ tn Heb “I have given into our hand.” The verbal form, a perfect, is probably best understood as a perfect of certitude, indicating the certainty of the action.

⁴ tn Heb “as it is written in the scroll of the law of Moses, an altar of whole stones on which no one had wielded iron.” The expression “whole stones” refers to stones in their natural condition, i.e., not carved or shaped artificially with tools (“wielded iron”).
