Leviticus 19:19

19:19 You must keep my statutes. You must not allow two different kinds of your animals to breed, 8  you must not sow your field with two different kinds of seed, and you must not wear 9  a garment made of two different kinds of fabric. 10 

1 tn Heb “and my sanctuary you shall fear.” Cf. NCV “respect”; CEV “honor.”

1 tn Heb “and my commandments you shall keep and do them.” This appears to be a kind of verbal hendiadys, where the first verb is a modifier of the action of the second verb (see GKC 386 §120.d, although שָׁמַר [shamar, “to keep”] is not cited there; cf. Lev 20:8; 25:18, etc.).

1 tn Heb “My regulations you shall do”; KJV, NASB “my judgments”; NRSV “My ordinances”; NIV, TEV “my laws.”

2 tn Heb “and my statutes you shall keep [or “watch; guard”] to walk in them.”

1 tn Heb “A man his mother and his father you [plural] shall fear.” The LXX, Syriac, Vulgate, and certain Targum mss reverse the order, “his father and his mother.” The term “fear” is subject to misunderstanding by the modern reader, so “respect” has been used in the translation. Cf. NAB, NRSV “revere”; NASB “reverence.”
