Luke 8:6-7

8:6 Other seed fell on rock, and when it came up, it withered because it had no moisture. 8:7 Other seed fell among the thorns, and they grew up with it and choked it.

Luke 20:11

20:11 So he sent another slave. They beat this one too, treated him outrageously, and sent him away empty-handed.

sn The rock in Palestine would be a limestone base lying right under the soil.

sn Palestinian weeds like these thorns could grow up to six feet in height and have a major root system.

sn That is, crowded out the good plants.

tn Here καί (kai) has been translated as “so” to indicate the implied result of the tenants’ mistreatment of the first slave.

sn The slaves being sent empty-handed suggests that the vineyard was not producing any fruit – and thus neither was the nation of Israel.
