1:1 This is the record of the genealogy 1 of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham.
11:2 Now when John 11 heard in prison about the deeds Christ 12 had done, he sent his disciples to ask a question: 13
1:17 So all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations, and from David to the deportation to Babylon, fourteen generations, and from the deportation to Babylon to Christ, 23 fourteen generations.
1:18 Now the birth of Jesus Christ happened this way. While his mother Mary was engaged to Joseph, but before they came together, 24 she was found to be pregnant through the Holy Spirit.
16:21 From that time on 25 Jesus began to show his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem 26 and suffer 27 many things at the hands of the elders, chief priests, and experts in the law, 28 and be killed, and on the third day be raised.

But their understanding was nonetheless incomplete, for Messiah is also David’s Lord. With this statement Jesus was affirming that, as the Messiah, he is both God and man.
