Matthew 27:27

27:27 Then the governor’s soldiers took Jesus into the governor’s residence and gathered the whole cohort around him.

John 18:28

Jesus Brought Before Pilate

18:28 Then they brought Jesus from Caiaphas to the Roman governor’s residence. (Now it was very early morning.) They did not go into the governor’s residence so they would not be ceremonially defiled, but could eat the Passover meal.

tn Or “into their headquarters”; Grk “into the praetorium.”

sn A Roman cohort was a tenth of a legion, about 500-600 soldiers.

tn Grk “to the praetorium.”

sn This is a parenthetical note by the author.

tn Grk “And they.” The conjunction καί (kai, “and”) has not been translated here in keeping with the tendency of contemporary English style to use shorter sentences.

tn Grk “into the praetorium.”
