Philippians 2:16

2:16 by holding on to ¹  the word of life so that on the day of Christ I will have a reason to boast that I did not run in vain nor labor in vain.

Philippians 1:20

1:20 My confident hope ²  is that I will in no way be ashamed ³  but that with complete boldness, even now as always, Christ will be exalted in my body, whether I live or die. ⁴ 

Philippians 4:3

4:3 Yes, I say also to you, true companion, ⁵  help them. They have struggled together in the gospel ministry ⁶  along with me and Clement and my other coworkers, whose names are in the book of life.

² tn Grk “according to my eager expectation and hope.” The κατά (kata) phrase is taken as governing the following ὅτι (Joti) clause (“that I will not be ashamed…”); the idea could be expressed more verbally as “I confidently hope that I will not be ashamed…”

³ tn Or possibly, “be intimidated, be put to shame.”

⁴ tn Grk “whether by life or by death.”

³ tn Or “faithful fellow worker.” This is more likely a descriptive noun, although some scholars interpret the word σύζυγος (suzugos) here as a proper name (“Syzygos”), L&N 42.45.

⁴ tn Grk “in the gospel,” a metonymy in which the gospel itself is substituted for the ministry of making the gospel known.
