the tribes of the Lord,

where it is required that Israel

give thanks to the name of the Lord. 3 

Isaiah 22:2

22:2 The noisy city is full of raucous sounds;

the town is filled with revelry. 4 

Your slain were not cut down by the sword;

they did not die in battle. 5 

Zechariah 8:4-5

8:4 Moreover, the Lord who rules over all says, ‘Old men and women will once more live in the plazas of Jerusalem, each one leaning on a cane because of advanced age. 8:5 And the streets of the city will be full of boys and girls playing. 6

4 tn Heb “the boisterous town.” The phrase is parallel to “the noisy city” in the preceding line.

5 sn Apparently they died from starvation during the siege that preceded the final conquest of the city. See J. N. Oswalt, Isaiah (NICOT), 1:409.

6 sn The references to longevity and to children living and playing in peace are eschatological in tone. Elsewhere the millennial kingdom is characterized in a similar manner (cf. Isa 65:20; Jer 31:12-13).
