Psalms 36:8-9

36:8 They are filled with food from your house,

and you allow them to drink from the river of your delicacies.

36:9 For you are the one who gives

and sustains life.

Isaiah 41:17

41:17 The oppressed and the poor look for water, but there is none;

their tongues are parched from thirst.

I, the Lord, will respond to their prayers;

I, the God of Israel, will not abandon them.

Jeremiah 17:6

17:6 They will be like a shrub in the desert.

They will not experience good things even when they happen.

It will be as though they were growing in the desert,

in a salt land where no one can live.

Revelation 22:1

22:1 Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life – water as clear as crystal – pouring out from the throne of God and of the Lamb,

tn Heb “for with you is the fountain of life, in your light we see light.” Water (note “fountain”) and light are here metaphors for life.

tn Heb “will answer them” (so ASV, NAB, NASB, NIV, NRSV, NLT).

tn This word occurs only here and in Jer 48:6. It has been identified as a kind of juniper, which is a short shrub with minute leaves that look like scales. For a picture and more discussion see Fauna and Flora of the Bible, 131.

tn Here καί (kai) has been translated as “then” to indicate the implied sequence within the narrative.

tn Grk “he”; the referent (the angel mentioned in 21:9, 15) has been specified in the translation for clarity.

tn Grk “proceeding.” Water is more naturally thought to pour out or flow out in English idiom.
