Psalms 75:7

75:7 For God is the judge!

He brings one down and exalts another.

Isaiah 2:12

2:12 Indeed, the Lord who commands armies has planned a day of judgment,

for all the high and mighty,

for all who are proud – they will be humiliated;

James 1:9-10

1:9 Now the believer of humble means should take pride in his high position. 1:10 But the rich person’s pride should be in his humiliation, because he will pass away like a wildflower in the meadow.

James 4:10

4:10 Humble yourselves before the Lord and he will exalt you.

tn Or “judges.”

tn The imperfects here emphasize the generalizing nature of the statement.

tn Heb “indeed [or “for”] the Lord who commands armies [traditionally, the Lord of hosts] has a day.”

tn Or “against” (NAB, NASB, NRSV).

tn Grk “brother.” Here the term “brother” means “fellow believer” or “fellow Christian” (cf. TEV, NLT “Christians”; CEV “God’s people”). The term broadly connotes familial relationships within the family of God (cf. BDAG 18 s.v. ἀδελφός 2.a).

tn Grk “the lowly brother,” but “lowly/humble” is clarified in context by the contrast with “wealthy” in v. 10.

tn Grk “let him boast.”

tn Grk “his height,” “his exaltation.”

tn Grk “a flower of grass.”
