Psalms 106:48

106:48 The Lord God of Israel deserves praise,

in the future and forevermore.

Let all the people say, “We agree! Praise the Lord!”

Psalms 28:9

28:9 Deliver your people!

Empower the nation that belongs to you!

Care for them like a shepherd and carry them in your arms at all times!

Psalms 41:13

41:13 The Lord God of Israel deserves praise

in the future and forevermore! 10

We agree! We agree! 11

Psalms 133:3

133:3 It is like the dew of Hermon, 12

which flows down upon the hills of Zion. 13

Indeed 14  that is where the Lord has decreed

a blessing will be available – eternal life. 15

tn Heb “[be] blessed.” See Pss 18:46; 28:6; 31:21.

tn Heb “from everlasting to everlasting.”

tn Heb “surely” (אָמֵן, ’amen), traditionally transliterated “amen.”

sn The final verse (v. 48) is a conclusion to this fourth “book” (or major editorial division) of the Psalter. Similar statements appear at or near the end of each of the first, second and third “books” of the Psalter (see Pss 41:13; 72:18-19; 89:52, respectively).

tn Or “bless.”

tn Heb “your inheritance.” The parallelism (note “your people”) indicates that Israel is in view.

tn Heb “shepherd them and lift them up.”

tn Or “forever.”

tn Heb “[be] blessed.” See Pss 18:46; 28:6; 31:21.

10 tn Heb “from everlasting to everlasting.” See 1 Chr 16:36; Neh 9:5; Pss 90:2; 106:48.

11 tn Heb “surely and surely” (אָמֵן וְאָמֵן [’amen vÿamen], i.e., “amen and amen”). This is probably a congregational response to the immediately preceding statement about the propriety of praising God.

13 sn Hermon refers to Mount Hermon, located north of Israel.

14 sn The hills of Zion are those surrounding Zion (see Pss 87:1; 125:2). The psalmist does not intend to suggest that the dew from Mt. Hermon in the distant north actually flows down upon Zion. His point is that the same kind of heavy dew that replenishes Hermon may also be seen on Zion’s hills. See A. Cohen, Psalms (SoBB), 439. “Dew” here symbolizes divine blessing, as the next line suggests.

15 tn Or “for.”

16 tn Heb “there the Lord has commanded the blessing, life forever.”
