Psalms 2:3

2:3 They say, “Let’s tear off the shackles they’ve put on us!

Let’s free ourselves from their ropes!”

Psalms 119:133

119:133 Direct my steps by your word!

Do not let any sin dominate me!

Psalms 141:3

141:3 O Lord, place a guard on my mouth!

Protect the opening of my lips!

tn The words “they say” are supplied in the translation for clarification. The quotation represents the words of the rebellious kings.

tn Heb “their (i.e., the Lord’s and the king’s) shackles.” The kings compare the rule of the Lord and his vice-regent to being imprisoned.

tn Heb “throw off from us.”

tn God’s “word” refers here to his law (see v. 11).

tn Heb “door.” The Hebrew word occurs only here in the OT.

sn My mouth…my lips. The psalmist asks God to protect him from speaking inappropriately or sinfully.
