Psalms 22:14

22:14 My strength drains away like water; ¹ 

all my bones are dislocated;

my heart ²  is like wax;

it melts away inside me.

Psalms 107:26

107:26 They ³  reached up to the sky,

then dropped into the depths.

The sailors’ strength ⁴  left them ⁵  because the danger was so great. ⁶ 

Joshua 2:11

Joshua 2:24

² sn The heart is viewed here as the seat of the psalmist’s strength and courage.

³ tn That is, the waves (see v. 25).

⁴ tn Heb “their being”; traditionally “their soul” (referring to that of the sailors). This is sometimes translated “courage” (cf. NIV, NRSV).

⁵ tn Or “melted.”

⁶ tn Heb “from danger.”

⁷ tn Heb “And we heard and our heart[s] melted and there remained no longer breath in a man because of you.”

⁸ tn Heb “Surely the Lord has given into our hand all the land.” The report by the spies uses the Hebrew perfect, suggesting certitude.

⁹ tn Heb “are melting away because of us.”
