Psalms 40:9

40:9 I have told the great assembly about your justice.

Look! I spare no words!

O Lord, you know this is true.

Psalms 71:18-19

71:18 Even when I am old and gray,

O God, do not abandon me,

until I tell the next generation about your strength,

and those coming after me about your power.

71:19 Your justice, O God, extends to the skies above;

you have done great things.

O God, who can compare to you?

John 7:25-26

Questions About Jesus’ Identity

7:25 Then some of the residents of Jerusalem began to say, “Isn’t this the man 10  they are trying 11  to kill? 7:26 Yet here he is, speaking publicly, 12  and they are saying nothing to him. 13  Do the rulers really know that this man 14  is the Christ? 15

Hebrews 2:11-12

2:11 For indeed he who makes holy and those being made holy all have the same origin, 16  and so 17  he is not ashamed to call them brothers and sisters, 18  2:12 saying, “I will proclaim your name to my brothers; 19  in the midst of the assembly I will praise you.” 20

sn The great assembly is also mentioned in Pss 22:25 and 35:18.

tn Heb “I proclaim justice in the great assembly.” Though “justice” appears without a pronoun here, the Lord’s just acts are in view (see v. 10). His “justice” (צֶדֶק, tsedeq) is here the deliverance that originates in his justice; he protects and vindicates the one whose cause is just.

tn Heb “Look! My lips I do not restrain.”

tn Heb “and even unto old age and gray hair.”

tn Heb “until I declare your arm to a generation, to everyone who comes your power.” God’s “arm” here is an anthropomorphism that symbolizes his great strength.

tn Heb “your justice, O God, [is] unto the height.” The Hebrew term מָרוֹם (marom, “height”) is here a title for the sky/heavens.

tn Heb “you who have done great things.”

tn Or “Who is like you?”

10 tn Grk “Is it not this one.”

11 tn Grk “seeking.”

12 tn Or “speaking openly.”

13 sn They are saying nothing to him. Some people who had heard Jesus were so impressed with his teaching that they began to infer from the inactivity of the opposing Jewish leaders a tacit acknowledgment of Jesus’ claims.

14 tn Grk “this one.”

15 tn Or “the Messiah” (Both Greek “Christ” and Hebrew and Aramaic “Messiah” mean “one who has been anointed”).

16 tn Grk “are all from one.”

17 tn Grk “for which reason.”

18 tn Grk “brothers,” but the Greek word may be used for “brothers and sisters” as here (cf. BDAG 18 s.v. ἀδελφός 1, where considerable nonbiblical evidence for the plural ἀδελφοί [adelfoi] meaning “brothers and sisters” is cited). The context here also indicates both men and women are in view; note especially the collective τὰ παιδία (ta paidia) in v. 14.

19 tn Here, because of its occurrence in an OT quotation, τοῖς ἀδελφοῖς (tois adelfois) has been translated simply as “brothers” rather than “brothers and sisters” (see the note on the latter phrase in the previous verse).

20 sn A quotation from Ps 22:22.
