Psalms 50:22

50:22 Carefully consider this, you who reject God!

Otherwise I will rip you to shreds

and no one will be able to rescue you.

Hosea 13:7-8

13:7 So I will pounce on them like a lion;

like a leopard I will lurk by the path.

13:8 I will attack them like a bear robbed of her cubs –

I will rip open their chests.

I will devour them there like a lion –

like a wild animal would tear them apart.

tn Heb “[you who] forget God.” “Forgetting God” here means forgetting about his commandments and not respecting his moral authority.

sn Elsewhere in the psalms this verb is used (within a metaphorical framework) of a lion tearing its prey (see Pss 7:2; 17:12; 22:13).

tn The vav consecutive + preterite form וָאֱהִי (vaehi) introduces a consequential or result clause; cf. NAB “Therefore”; NCV “That is why.”

tn Heb “So I will be like a lion to them” (so NASB); NIV “I will come upon them like a lion.”
