80:14 O God, invincible warrior, 1 come back!
Look down from heaven and take notice!
Take care of this vine,
128:3 Your wife will be like a fruitful vine 2
in the inner rooms of your house;
your children 3 will be like olive branches,
as they sit all around your table.
1 tn Heb “O God, hosts.” One expects the construct form אֱלֹהֵי before צְבָאוֹת (tsÿva’ot, “hosts”; see Ps 89:9), but יְהוָה אֱלֹהִים (yehvah ’elohim) precedes צְבָאוֹת (tsÿva’ot) in Pss 59:5 and 84:8 as well. See also vv. 4, 7 for a similar construction.
2 sn The metaphor of the fruitful vine pictures the wife as fertile; she will give her husband numerous children (see the next line).
3 tn One could translate “sons” (see Ps 127:3 and the note on the word “sons” there), but here the term seems to refer more generally to children of both genders.
