12:11 But 1 they overcame him
by the blood of the Lamb
and by the word of their testimony,
and they did not love their lives 2 so much that they were afraid to die.
1 tn Here καί (kai) has been translated as “but” to indicate the contrast.
2 sn They did not love their lives. See Matt 16:25; Luke 17:33; John 12:25.
3 tn Grk “power, and no one.” A new sentence was started here in the translation. Here καί (kai) has been translated as “thus” to indicate the implied result of the temple being filled with smoke.
5 tn Grk “hearts.”
6 tn Or “his intent.”
7 tn The infinitive ποιῆσαι (poihsai) was translated here as giving the logical means by which God’s purpose was carried out.
8 tn On this term BDAG 203 s.v. γνώμη 4 states, “declaration, decision, resolution…of God Rv 17:17.”
9 tn For this translation see BDAG 168 s.v. βασιλεία 1.a, “kingship, royal power, royal rule.”
10 tn Or “completed.”
7 tn Grk “he”; the referent (the angel introduced in v. 1) has been specified in the translation for clarity.
8 tn Here καί (kai) has been translated as “then” to indicate the implied sequence of events within the vision.
9 tn Or “and shut.” While the lexical force of the term is closer to “shut,” it is acceptable to render the verb ἔκλεισεν (ekleisen) as “locked” here in view of the mention of the key in the previous verse.
