12:11 But 4 they overcame him
by the blood of the Lamb
and by the word of their testimony,
and they did not love their lives 5 so much that they were afraid to die.
1 tn Here καί (kai) has not been translated because of differences between Greek and English style.
2 tn Grk “until they had been completed.” The idea of a certain “number” of people is implied by the subject of πληρωθῶσιν (plhrwqwsin).
3 tn Though σύνδουλος (sundoulos) has been translated “fellow servant,” the word does not bear the connotation of a free individual serving another. See the note on the word “servants” in 1:1.
4 tn Here καί (kai) has been translated as “but” to indicate the contrast.
5 sn They did not love their lives. See Matt 16:25; Luke 17:33; John 12:25.
7 tn Or “dwelling place”; traditionally, “tabernacle”; literally “tent.”
8 tn Or “people”; Grk “men” (ἀνθρώπων, anqrwpwn), a generic use of the term. In the translation “human beings” was used here because “people” occurs later in the verse and translates a different Greek word (λαοί, laoi).
9 tn Grk “men, and he.” Because of the length and complexity of the Greek sentence, a new sentence was started here in the translation.
