Wisdom Can Lengthen One’s Life

7:11 Wisdom, like an inheritance, is a good thing;

it benefits those who see the light of day.

Ecclesiastes 6:8

6:8 So what advantage does a wise man have over a fool?

And what advantage does a pauper gain by knowing how to survive?

Ecclesiastes 6:11

6:11 The more one argues with words, the less he accomplishes.

How does that benefit him?

Ecclesiastes 7:16

7:16 So do not be excessively righteous or excessively wise;

otherwise you might be disappointed.

Ecclesiastes 2:15

2:15 So I thought to myself, “The fate of the fool will happen even to me!

Then what did I gain by becoming so excessively wise?”

So I lamented to myself,

“The benefits of wisdom are ultimately meaningless!”

12:9 Not only was the Teacher wise,

but he also taught knowledge to the people;

he carefully evaluated and arranged many proverbs.

Concluding Exhortation: Fear God and Obey His Commands!

12:12 Be warned, my son, of anything in addition to them.

There is no end to the making of many books,

and much study is exhausting to the body.
