Isaiah 64:5
64:5 You assist those who delight in doing what is right,
who observe your commandments.
Look, you were angry because we violated them continually.
How then can we be saved?
Deuteronomy 8:3
8:3 So he humbled you by making you hungry and then feeding you with unfamiliar manna.
He did this to teach you
that humankind
cannot live by bread
alone, but also by everything that comes from the
Lord’s mouth.
Job 33:19-28
33:19 Or a person is chastened by pain on his bed,
and with the continual strife of his bones,
33:20 so that his life loathes food,
and his soul rejects appetizing fare.
33:21 His flesh wastes away from sight,
and his bones, which were not seen,
are easily visible.
33:22 He draws near to the place of corruption,
and his life to the messengers of death.
33:23 If there is an angel beside him,
one mediator out of a thousand,
to tell a person what constitutes his uprightness;
33:24 and if God is gracious to him and says,
‘Spare him from going down
to the place of corruption,
I have found a ransom for him,’
33:25 then his flesh is restored like a youth’s;
he returns to the days of his youthful vigor.
33:26 He entreats God, and God delights in him,
he sees God’s face with rejoicing,
and God restores to him his righteousness.
33:27 That person sings to others, saying:
‘I have sinned and falsified what is right,
but I was not punished according to what I deserved.
33:28 He redeemed my life
from going down to the place of corruption,
and my life sees the light!’
Psalms 71:20
71:20 Though you have allowed me to experience much trouble and distress,
revive me once again!
Bring me up once again from the depths of the earth!
Matthew 4:4
4:4 But he answered,
“It is written, ‘
Man does not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”
Matthew 4:1
The Temptation of Jesus
4:1 Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.
Colossians 1:1-2
Salutation
1:1 From Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, and Timothy our brother,
1:2 to the saints, the faithful brothers and sisters in Christ, at Colossae. Grace and peace to you from God our Father!
Colossians 4:17
4:17 And tell Archippus, “See to it that you complete the ministry you received in the Lord.”
Hebrews 12:10-11
12:10 For they disciplined us for a little while as seemed good to them, but he does so for our benefit, that we may share his holiness.
12:11 Now all discipline seems painful at the time, not joyful.
But later it produces the fruit of peace and righteousness
for those trained by it.
