Jeremiah 13:15-17
13:15 Then I said to the people of Judah,
“Listen and pay attention! Do not be arrogant!
For the Lord has spoken.
13:16 Show the Lord your God the respect that is due him.
Do it before he brings the darkness of disaster.
Do it before you stumble into distress
like a traveler on the mountains at twilight.
Do it before he turns the light of deliverance you hope for
into the darkness and gloom of exile.
13:17 But if you will not pay attention to this warning,
I will weep alone because of your arrogant pride.
I will weep bitterly and my eyes will overflow with tears
because you, the Lord’s flock, will be carried into exile.”
Genesis 37:22
37:22 Reuben continued,
“Don’t shed blood! Throw him into this cistern that is here in the wilderness, but don’t lay a hand on him.”
(Reuben said this
so he could rescue Joseph
from them
and take him back to his father.)
Genesis 37:26-28
37:26 Then Judah said to his brothers, “What profit is there if we kill our brother and cover up his blood?
37:27 Come, let’s sell him to the Ishmaelites, but let’s not lay a hand on him,
for after all, he is our brother, our own flesh.” His brothers agreed.
37:28 So when the Midianite
merchants passed by, Joseph’s brothers pulled
him
out of the cistern and sold him to the Ishmaelites for twenty pieces of silver. The Ishmaelites
then took Joseph to Egypt.
Matthew 27:4
27:4 saying, “I have sinned by betraying innocent blood!” But they said, “What is that to us? You take care of it yourself!”
Matthew 27:24-25
Jesus is Condemned and Mocked
27:24 When Pilate saw that he could do nothing, but that instead a riot was starting, he took some water, washed his hands before the crowd and said, “I am innocent of this man’s blood. You take care of it yourselves!”
27:25 In reply all the people said, “Let his blood be on us and on our children!”
Acts 5:34-39
5:34 But a Pharisee

a teacher of the law who was respected by all the people, stood up
in the council
and ordered the men to be put outside for a short time.
5:35 Then he said to the council,
“Men of Israel,
pay close attention to
what you are about to do to these men.
5:36 For some time ago
Theudas rose up, claiming to be somebody, and about four hundred men joined him. He
was killed, and all who followed him were dispersed and nothing came of it.
5:37 After him Judas the Galilean arose in the days of the census,
and incited people to follow him in revolt.
He too was killed, and all who followed him were scattered.
5:38 So in this case I say to you, stay away from these men and leave them alone, because if this plan or this undertaking originates with people,
it will come to nothing,
5:39 but if
it is from God, you will not be able to stop them, or you may even be found
fighting against God.” He convinced them,
