Jeremiah 2:20
The Lord Expresses His Exasperation at Judah’s Persistent Idolatry
2:20 “Indeed, long ago you threw off my authority
and refused to be subject to me.
You said, ‘I will not serve you.’
Instead, you gave yourself to other gods on every high hill
and under every green tree,
like a prostitute sprawls out before her lovers.
Jeremiah 26:8-9
26:8 Jeremiah had just barely finished saying all the
Lord had commanded him to say to all the people. All at once some
of the priests, the prophets, and the people grabbed him and shouted, “You deserve to die!
26:9 How dare you claim the
Lord’s authority to prophesy such things! How dare you claim his authority to prophesy that this temple will become like Shiloh and that this city will become an uninhabited ruin!”
Then all the people crowded around Jeremiah.
Matthew 23:31
23:31 By saying this you testify against yourselves that you are descendants of those who murdered the prophets.

23:33 You snakes, you offspring of vipers! How will you escape being condemned to hell?

this generation.
