Jeremiah 2:31
2:31 You people of this generation,
listen to what the Lord says.
“Have I been like a wilderness to you, Israel?
Have I been like a dark and dangerous land to you?
Why then do you say, ‘We are free to wander.
We will not come to you any more?’
Jeremiah 6:16
6:16 The Lord said to his people:
“You are standing at the crossroads. So consider your path.
Ask where the old, reliable paths are.
Ask where the path is that leads to blessing and follow it.
If you do, you will find rest for your souls.”
But they said, “We will not follow it!”
Jeremiah 35:15
35:15 I sent all my servants the prophets to warn you over and over again. They said, “Every one of you, stop doing the evil things you have been doing and do what is right.
Do not pay allegiance to other gods
and worship them. Then you can continue to live in this land that I gave to you and your ancestors.” But you did not pay any attention or listen to me.
Jeremiah 36:21-26
36:21 The king sent Jehudi to get the scroll. He went and got it from the room of Elishama, the royal secretary. Then he himself
read it to the king and all the officials who were standing around him.
36:22 Since it was the ninth month of the year, the king was sitting in his winter quarters.
A fire was burning in the firepot in front of him.
36:23 As soon as Jehudi had read three or four columns
of the scroll, the king
would cut them off with a penknife
and throw them on the fire in the firepot. He kept doing so until the whole scroll was burned up in the fire.
36:24 Neither he nor any of his attendants showed any alarm when they heard all that had been read. Nor did they tear their clothes to show any grief or sorrow.
36:25 The king did not even listen to Elnathan, Delaiah, and Gemariah, who had urged him not to burn the scroll.
36:26 He also ordered Jerahmeel, who was one of the royal princes,
Seraiah son of Azriel, and Shelemiah son of Abdeel to arrest the scribe Baruch and the prophet Jeremiah. However, the
Lord hid them.
Jeremiah 36:2
36:2 “Get a scroll.
Write on it everything I have told you to say
about Israel, Judah, and all the other nations since I began to speak to you in the reign of Josiah until now.
Jeremiah 33:10
33:10 “I, the Lord, say: ‘You and your people are saying about this place, “It lies in ruins. There are no people or animals in it.” That is true. The towns of Judah and the streets of Jerusalem will soon be desolate, uninhabited either by people or by animals. But happy sounds will again be heard in these places.
Jeremiah 36:16-17
36:16 When they had heard it all,
they expressed their alarm to one another.
Then they said to Baruch, “We must certainly give the king a report about everything you have read!”
36:17 Then they asked Baruch, “How did you come to write all these words? Do they actually come from Jeremiah’s mouth?”
Proverbs 30:9
30:9 lest I become satisfied and act deceptively
and say, “Who is the Lord?”
Or lest I become poor and steal
and demean the name of my God.
