Luke 16:15
16:15 But
Jesus
said to them, “You are the ones who justify yourselves in men’s eyes,
but God knows your hearts. For what is highly prized
among men is utterly detestable
in God’s sight.
Genesis 6:9
The Judgment of the Flood
6:9 This is the account of Noah.
Noah was a godly man; he was blameless
among his contemporaries. He walked with God.
Genesis 7:1
7:1 The Lord said to Noah, “Come into the ark, you and all your household, for I consider you godly among this generation.
Genesis 17:1
The Sign of the Covenant
17:1 When Abram was 99 years old, the Lord appeared to him and said, “I am the sovereign God. Walk before me and be blameless.
Job 1:1
I. The Prologue (1:1-2:13)
Job’s Good Life
1:1 There was a man in the land of Uz whose name was Job. And that man was pure and upright, one who feared God and turned away from evil.
Job 1:8
1:8 So the
Lord said to Satan, “Have you considered
my servant Job? There
is no one like him on the earth, a pure and upright man, one who fears God and turns away
from evil.”
Job 9:2
9:2 “Truly, I know that this is so.
But how can a human be just before God?
Romans 3:9-25
The Condemnation of the World
3:9 What then? Are we better off? Certainly not, for we have already charged that Jews and Greeks alike are all under sin,
3:10 just as it is written:
“There is no one righteous, not even one,
3:11 there is no one who understands,
there is no one who seeks God.
3:12 All have turned away,
together they have become worthless;
there is no one who shows kindness, not even one.”
3:13 “Their throats are open graves,
they deceive with their tongues,
the poison of asps is under their lips.”
3:14 “Their mouths are full of cursing and bitterness.”
3:15 “Their feet are swift to shed blood,
3:16 ruin and misery are in their paths,
3:17 and the way of peace they have not known.”
3:18 “There is no fear of God before their eyes.”
3:19 Now we know that whatever the law says, it says to those who are under the law, so that every mouth may be silenced and the whole world may be held accountable to God.
3:20 For no one is declared righteous before him by the works of the law, for through the law comes the knowledge of sin.
3:21 But now apart from the law the righteousness of God (which is attested by the law and the prophets) has been disclosed –
3:22 namely, the righteousness of God through the faithfulness of Jesus Christ for all who believe. For there is no distinction,
3:23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.
3:24 But they are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus.
3:25 God publicly displayed him at his death as the mercy seat accessible through faith. This was to demonstrate his righteousness, because God in his forbearance had passed over the sins previously committed.
Philippians 3:6-9
3:6 In my zeal for God I persecuted the church. According to the righteousness stipulated in the law I was blameless.
3:7 But these assets I have come to regard as liabilities because of Christ.
3:8 More than that, I now regard all things as liabilities compared to the far greater value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things – indeed, I regard them as dung!
– that I may gain Christ,
3:9 and be found in him, not because I have my own righteousness derived from the law, but because I have the righteousness that comes by way of Christ’s faithfulness
– a righteousness from God that is in fact
based on Christ’s
faithfulness.
Titus 3:3-7
3:3 For we too were once foolish, disobedient, misled, enslaved to various passions and desires, spending our lives in evil and envy, hateful and hating one another.
3:4 But “when the kindness of God our Savior and his love for mankind appeared,
3:5 he saved us not by works of righteousness that we have done but on the basis of his mercy, through the washing of the new birth and the renewing of the Holy Spirit,
3:6 whom he poured out on us in full measure
through Jesus Christ our Savior.
3:7 And so,
since we have been justified by his grace, we become heirs with the confident expectation of eternal life.”
