Luke 6:32-36
6:32 “If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them.
6:33 And if you do good to those who do good to you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners do the same.
6:34 And if you lend to those from whom you hope to be repaid, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners, so that they may be repaid in full.
6:35 But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High, because he is kind to ungrateful and evil people.
6:36 Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.
Zechariah 7:5-7
7:5 “Speak to all the people and priests of the land as follows: ‘When you fasted and lamented in the fifth and seventh
months through all these seventy years, did you truly fast for me – for me, indeed?
7:6 And now when you eat and drink, are you not doing so for yourselves?’”
7:7 Should you not have obeyed the words that the
Lord cried out through the former prophets when Jerusalem
was peacefully inhabited and her surrounding cities, the Negev, and the Shephelah
were also populated?
Matthew 5:46
5:46 For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Even the tax collectors
do the same, don’t they?
Matthew 6:1-4
Pure-hearted Giving
6:1 “Be careful not to display your righteousness merely to be seen by people. Otherwise you have no reward with your Father in heaven.
6:2 Thus whenever you do charitable giving, do not blow a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in synagogues and on streets so that people will praise them. I tell you the truth, they have their reward.
6:3 But when you do your giving, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing,
6:4 so that your gift may be in secret. And your Father, who sees in secret, will reward you.
Matthew 6:16-18
Proper Fasting
6:16 “When you fast, do not look sullen like the hypocrites, for they make their faces unattractive so that people will see them fasting. I tell you the truth, they have their reward.
6:17 When you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face,
6:18 so that it will not be obvious to others when you are fasting, but only to your Father who is in secret. And your Father, who sees in secret, will reward you.
