Matthew 2:13-16
The Escape to Egypt
2:13 After they had gone, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and said, “Get up, take the child and his mother and flee to Egypt, and stay there until I tell you, for Herod is going to look for the child to kill him.”
2:14 Then he got up, took the child and his mother during the night, and went to Egypt.
2:15 He stayed there until Herod died. In this way what was spoken by the Lord through the prophet was fulfilled: “I called my Son out of Egypt.”
2:16 When Herod saw that he had been tricked by the wise men, he became enraged. He sent men to kill all the children in Bethlehem and throughout the surrounding region from the age of two and under, according to the time he had learned from the wise men.
Luke 13:31-33
Going to Jerusalem
13:31 At that time, some Pharisees came up and said to Jesus, “Get away from here, because Herod wants to kill you.”
13:32 But he said to them, “Go and tell that fox, ‘Look, I am casting out demons and performing healings today and tomorrow, and on the third day I will complete my work.
13:33 Nevertheless I must go on my way today and tomorrow and the next day, because it is impossible that a prophet should be killed outside Jerusalem.’
Luke 23:7-12
23:7 When
he learned that he was from Herod’s jurisdiction,
he sent him over to Herod,
who also happened to be in Jerusalem
at that time.
23:8 When
Herod saw Jesus, he was very glad, for he had long desired to see him, because he had heard about him and was hoping to see him perform
some miraculous sign.
23:9 So
Herod
questioned him at considerable length; Jesus
gave him no answer.
23:10 The chief priests and the experts in the law
were there, vehemently accusing him.
23:11 Even Herod with his soldiers treated him with contempt and mocked him. Then,
dressing him in elegant clothes,
Herod
sent him back to Pilate.
23:12 That very day Herod and Pilate became friends with each other,
for prior to this they had been enemies.
