Matthew 5:43
Love for Enemies
5:43 “You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor’ and ‘hate your enemy.’
Matthew 19:19
19:19 honor your father and mother, and
love your neighbor as yourself.”
Matthew 22:39-40
22:39 The second is like it: ‘
Love your neighbor as yourself.’
22:40 All the law and the prophets depend
on these two commandments.”
Mark 12:31-34
12:31 The second is: ‘
Love your neighbor as yourself.’
There is no other commandment greater than these.”
12:32 The expert in the law said to him, “That is true, Teacher; you are right to say that
he is one, and there is no one else besides him.
12:33 And
to love him with all your heart, with all your mind, and with all your strength and
to love your neighbor as yourself is more important than all burnt offerings and sacrifices.”
12:34 When Jesus saw that he had answered thoughtfully, he said to him, “You are not far from the kingdom of God.” Then no one dared any longer to question him.
Luke 10:27-37
10:27 The expert
answered, “
Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind,
and
love your neighbor as yourself.”
10:28 Jesus
said to him, “You have answered correctly;
do this, and you will live.”
10:29 But the expert, wanting to justify himself, said to Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?”
10:30 Jesus replied, “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell into the hands of robbers, who stripped him, beat him up, and went off, leaving him half dead.
10:31 Now by chance a priest was going down that road, but when he saw the injured man he passed by on the other side.
10:32 So too a Levite, when he came up to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side.
10:33 But a Samaritan who was traveling came to where the injured man was, and when he saw him, he felt compassion for him.
10:34 He went up to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring oil and wine on them. Then he put him on his own animal, brought him to an inn, and took care of him.
10:35 The next day he took out two silver coins and gave them to the innkeeper, saying, ‘Take care of him, and whatever else you spend, I will repay you when I come back this way.’
10:36 Which of these three do you think became a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of the robbers?”
10:37 The expert in religious law said, “The one who showed mercy to him.” So Jesus said to him, “Go and do the same.”
