1 Corinthians 5:2
Context5:2 And you are proud! 4 Shouldn’t you have been deeply sorrowful instead and removed the one who did this 5 from among you?
Colossians 1:18
Context1:18 He is the head of the body, the church, as well as the beginning, the firstborn 6 from among the dead, so that he himself may become first in all things. 7
[3:21] 1 tn Grk “so then, let no one boast in men.”
[5:6] 2 sn In this passage (5:6-8) yeast represents the presence of evil within the church, specifically the immoral person described in 5:1-5 and mentioned again in 5:13.
[5:6] 3 tn Grk “a little yeast leavens.”
[5:2] 4 tn Or “are puffed up/arrogant,” the same verb occurring in 4:6, 18.
[5:2] 5 tn Grk “sorrowful, so that the one who did this might be removed.”
[1:18] 6 tn See the note on the term “firstborn” in 1:15. Here the reference to Jesus as the “firstborn from among the dead” seems to be arguing for a chronological priority, i.e., Jesus was the first to rise from the dead.
[1:18] 7 tn Grk “in order that he may become in all things, himself, first.”
