3:6 Solomon replied, “You demonstrated 1  great loyalty to your servant, my father David, as he served 2  you faithfully, properly, and sincerely. 3  You have maintained this great loyalty to this day by allowing his son to sit on his throne. 4

11:38 You must obey 5  all I command you to do, follow my instructions, 6  do what I approve, 7  and keep my rules and commandments, like my servant David did. Then I will be with you and establish for you a lasting dynasty, as I did for David; 8  I will give you Israel.

1 Kings 15:5

15:5 He did this 9  because David had done what he approved 10  and had not disregarded any of his commandments 11  his entire lifetime, except for the incident involving Uriah the Hittite.

[3:6]  2 tn Heb “walked before.”

[3:6]  3 tn Heb “in faithfulness and in innocence and in uprightness of heart with you.”

[3:6]  4 tn Heb “and you have kept to him this great loyalty and you gave to him a son [who] sits on his throne as this day.”

[11:38]  5 tn Heb “If you obey.” In the Hebrew text v. 38 is actually one long conditional sentence, which has been broken into two parts in the translation for stylistic purposes.

[11:38]  7 tn Heb “do what is right in my eyes.”

[11:38]  8 tn Heb “I will build for you a permanent house, like I built for David.”

[15:5]  9 tn The words “he did this” are added for stylistic reasons.
