2 Kings 19:32

Context

19:32 So this is what the Lord says about the king of Assyria:

“He will not enter this city,

nor will he shoot an arrow here. 1 

He will not attack it with his shield-carrying warriors, 2 

nor will he build siege works against it.

2 Kings 21:16

Context

21:16 Furthermore Manasseh killed so many innocent people, he stained Jerusalem with their blood from end to end, 3  in addition to encouraging Judah to sin by doing evil in the sight of the Lord. 4

[19:32]  2 tn Heb “[with] a shield.” By metonymy the “shield” stands for the soldier who carries it.

[21:16]  3 tn Heb “and also Manasseh shed very much innocent blood, until he filled Jerusalem from mouth to mouth.”

[21:16]  4 tn Heb “apart from his sin which he caused Judah to commit, by doing what is evil in the eyes of the Lord.”
