4:38 Now Elisha went back to Gilgal, while there was famine in the land. Some of the prophets were visiting him 1  and he told his servant, “Put the big pot on the fire 2  and boil some stew for the prophets.” 3

4:1 Now a wife of one of the prophets 4  appealed 5  to Elisha for help, saying, “Your servant, my husband is dead. You know that your servant was a loyal follower of the Lord. 6  Now the creditor is coming to take away my two boys to be his servants.”

19:20 Isaiah son of Amoz sent this message to Hezekiah: “This is what the Lord God of Israel says: ‘I have heard your prayer concerning King Sennacherib of Assyria. 7

[4:38]  2 tn The words “the fire” are added for clarification.

[4:38]  3 tn Heb “sons of the prophets.”

[4:1]  6 tn Heb “your servant feared the Lord.” “Fear” refers here to obedience and allegiance, the products of healthy respect for the Lord’s authority.

[19:20]  7 tn Heb “That which you prayed to me concerning Sennacherib king of Assyria I have heard.” The verb “I have heard” does not appear in the parallel passage in Isa 37:21, where אֲשֶׁר (’asher) probably has a causal sense, “because.”
