[7:14]  1 tn Heb “and the king sent [them] after the Syrian camp.”

[7:14]  2 tn Heb “Go and see.”

[1:14]  3 tn Heb “look.”

[1:14]  4 tn Heb “their fifty.”

[10:4]  5 tn Heb “they were very, very afraid.” The term מְאֹד (meod) “very,” is repeated for emphasis.

[10:4]  6 tn Heb “did not stand before him.”

[10:4]  7 tn Heb “How can we stand?”

[10:8]  7 tn Heb “him”; the referent (Jehu) has been specified in the translation for clarity.

[10:8]  8 tn Heb “he”; the referent (Jehu) has been specified in the translation for clarity.

[4:1]  9 tn Heb “a wife from among the wives of the sons of the prophets.”

[4:1]  10 tn Or “cried out.”

[4:1]  11 tn Heb “your servant feared the Lord.” “Fear” refers here to obedience and allegiance, the products of healthy respect for the Lord’s authority.

[5:22]  11 tn Heb “peace.”

[5:22]  12 tn Heb “Look now, here, two servants came to me from the Ephraimite hill country, from the sons of the prophets.”

[5:22]  13 tn The Hebrew term כִּכָּר (kikkar, “circle”) refers generally to something that is round. When used of metals it can refer to a disk-shaped weight made of the metal or to a standard unit of weight, generally regarded as a talent. Since the accepted weight for a talent of metal is about 75 pounds, this would have amounted to about 75 pounds of silver (cf. NCV, NLT, CEV).

[5:23]  13 tn Heb “Be resolved and accept two talents.”

[5:23]  14 tn Heb “before him.”

[9:19]  15 tn Heb “and he came to them.”

[9:19]  16 tc The MT has simply “peace,” omitting the prefixed interrogative particle. It is likely that the particle has been accidentally omitted; several ancient witnesses include it or assume its presence.

[17:16]  17 tn The phrase כָל צְבָא הַשָּׁמַיִם (khol tsÿvahashamayim), traditionally translated “all the host of heaven,” refers to the heavenly lights, including stars and planets. In 1 Kgs 22:19 these heavenly bodies are pictured as members of the Lord’s royal court or assembly, but many other texts view them as the illegitimate objects of pagan and Israelite worship.

[17:16]  18 tn Or “served.”
