7:18 until another king who did not know about ¹  Joseph ruled ²  over Egypt. ³

1:20 “For it is written in the book of Psalms, ‘Let his house become deserted, ⁴  and let there be no one to live in it,’ ⁵  and ‘Let another take his position of responsibility.’ ⁶ 

[7:18]  ¹ tn Or simply “did not know.” However, in this context the point is that the new king knew nothing about Joseph, not whether he had known him personally (which is the way “did not know Joseph” could be understood).

[7:18]  ² tn Grk “arose,” but in this context it clearly refers to a king assuming power.

[7:18]  ³ sn A quotation from Exod 1:8.

[1:20]  ⁴ tn Or “uninhabited” or “empty.”

[1:20]  ⁵ sn A quotation from Ps 69:25.
