Deuteronomy 21:9
Context21:9 In this manner you will purge out the guilt of innocent blood from among you, for you must do what is right before 1 the Lord.
Deuteronomy 21:2
Context21:2 your elders and judges must go out and measure how far it is to the cities in the vicinity of the corpse. 2
Deuteronomy 21:16
Context21:16 In the day he divides his inheritance 3 he must not appoint as firstborn the son of the favorite wife in place of the other 4 wife’s son who is actually the firstborn.
Deuteronomy 24:4
Context24:4 her first husband who divorced her is not permitted to remarry 5 her after she has become ritually impure, for that is offensive to the Lord. 6 You must not bring guilt on the land 7 which the Lord your God is giving you as an inheritance.
Jeremiah 2:34
Context2:34 Even your clothes are stained with
the lifeblood of the poor who had not done anything wrong;
you did not catch them breaking into your homes. 8
Yet, in spite of all these things you have done, 9
[21:9] 1 tn Heb “in the eyes of” (so ASV, NASB, NIV).
[21:2] 2 tn Heb “surrounding the slain [one].”
[21:16] 3 tn Heb “when he causes his sons to inherit what is his.”
[24:4] 5 tn Heb “to return to take her to be his wife.”
[24:4] 6 sn The issue here is not divorce and its grounds per se but prohibition of remarriage to a mate whom one has previously divorced.
[24:4] 7 tn Heb “cause the land to sin” (so KJV, ASV).
[2:34] 8 tn The words “for example” are implicit and are supplied in the translation for clarification. This is only one example of why their death was not legitimate.
[2:34] 9 tn KJV and ASV read this line with 2:34. The ASV makes little sense and the KJV again erroneously reads the archaic second person feminine singular perfect as first person common singular. All the modern English versions and commentaries take this line with 2:35.
