Deuteronomy 3:18-20

Context
Instructions to the Transjordanian Tribes

3:18 At that time I instructed you as follows: “The Lord your God has given you this land for your possession. You warriors are to cross over before your fellow Israelites 1  equipped for battle. 3:19 But your wives, children, and livestock (of which I know you have many) may remain in the cities I have given you. 3:20 You must fight 2  until the Lord gives your countrymen victory 3  as he did you and they take possession of the land that the Lord your God is giving them on the other side of the Jordan River. Then each of you may return to his own territory that I have given you.”

Joshua 1:13-15

Context
1:13 “Remember what Moses the Lord’s servant commanded you. 4  The Lord your God is giving you a place to settle and is handing this land over to you. 5  1:14 Your wives, children and cattle may stay in the land that Moses assigned to you east of the Jordan River. But all you warriors must cross over armed for battle ahead of your brothers. 6  You must help them 1:15 until the Lord gives your brothers a place like yours to settle and they conquer the land the Lord your God is ready to hand over to them. Then you may go back to your allotted land and occupy the land Moses the Lord’s servant assigned you east of the Jordan.” 7

Joshua 4:12-13

Context
4:12 The Reubenites, Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh crossed over armed for battle ahead of the Israelites, just as Moses had instructed them. 4:13 About forty thousand battle-ready troops 8  marched past the Lord to fight 9  on the plains of Jericho. 10

Joshua 22:2-4

Context
22:2 and told them: “You have carried out all the instructions of Moses the Lord’s servant, and you have obeyed all I have told you. 11  22:3 You have not abandoned your fellow Israelites 12  this entire time, 13  right up to this very day. You have completed the task given you by the Lord your God. 14  22:4 Now the Lord your God has made your fellow Israelites secure, 15  just as he promised them. So now you may turn around and go to your homes 16  in your own land 17  which Moses the Lord’s servant assigned to you east of the Jordan.
