[19:6]  1 tn Heb “and overtake him, for the road is long.”

[19:6]  2 tn Heb “smite with respect to life,” that is, fatally.

[19:6]  3 tn Heb “no judgment of death.”

[31:2]  4 tn Heb “and Jacob saw the face of Laban, and look, he was not with him as formerly.” Jacob knew from the expression on Laban’s face that his attitude toward him had changed – Jacob had become persona non grata.

[3:4]  5 tn Heb “But there should be a distance between you and it, about two thousand cubits in measurement.”

[3:4]  6 tn Heb “do not approach it.”

[3:4]  7 tn Heb “know.”

[3:1]  8 tn Heb “And Joshua arose early in the morning and he and the Israelites left Shittim and came to the Jordan.”

[3:1]  9 tn The words “the river,” though not in the Hebrew text, have been supplied in the translation for clarity.

[11:2]  10 tn Heb “and to the kings who [are] from the north in.”

[11:2]  11 tn Heb “Chinneroth,” a city and plain located in the territory of Naphtali in Galilee (BDB 490 s.v. כִּנֶּרֶת, כִּנֲרוֹת).

[30:33]  12 tn Or “indeed.”

[30:33]  13 tc The Hebrew text reads literally, “for arranged from before [or “yesterday”] is [?].” The meaning of תָּפְתֶּה (tafÿteh), which occurs only here, is unknown. The translation above (as with most English versions) assumes an emendation to תֹּפֶת (tofet, “Topheth”; cf. NASB, NIV, NLT) and places the final hey (ה) on the beginning of the next word as an interrogative particle. Topheth was a place near Jerusalem used as a burial ground (see Jer 7:32; 19:11).

[30:33]  14 tn The Hebrew text reads literally, “Also it is made ready for the king, one makes it deep and wide.” If one takes the final hey (ה) on תָּפְתֶּה (tafÿteh) and prefixes it to גָּם (gam) as an interrogative particle (see the preceding note), one can translate, “Is it also made ready for the king?” In this case the question is rhetorical and expects an emphatic affirmative answer, “Of course it is!”

[30:33]  15 tn Heb “its pile of wood, fire and wood one makes abundant.”
