Esther 3:13

Context
3:13 Letters were sent by the runners to all the king’s provinces stating that 1  they should destroy, kill, and annihilate all the Jews, from youth to elderly, both women and children, 2  on a particular day, namely the thirteenth day 3  of the twelfth month (that is, the month of Adar), and to loot and plunder their possessions.

Esther 9:10

Context
9:10 the ten sons of Haman son of Hammedatha, the enemy of the Jews. But they did not confiscate their property.

Esther 9:15-16

Context
9:15 The Jews who were in Susa then assembled on the fourteenth day of the month of Adar, and they killed three hundred men in Susa. But they did not confiscate their property.

9:16 The rest of the Jews who were throughout the provinces of the king assembled in order to stand up for themselves and to have rest from their enemies. They killed seventy-five thousand 4  of their adversaries, but they did not confiscate their property.

Isaiah 10:6

10:6 I sent him 5  against a godless 6  nation,

I ordered him to attack the people with whom I was angry, 7

[3:13]  1 tn The words “stating that” are not in the Hebrew text but have been supplied in the translation for clarity.

[3:13]  2 tn Heb “children and women.” The translation follows contemporary English idiom, which reverses the order.

[3:13]  3 tc The LXX does not include the words “on the thirteenth day.”

[9:16]  4 tc For this number much of the Greek MS tradition reads “fifteen thousand.” The Lucianic Greek recension reads “70,100.”

[10:6]  5 sn Throughout this section singular forms are used to refer to Assyria; perhaps the king of Assyria is in view (see v. 12).

[10:6]  6 tn Or “defiled”; cf. ASV “profane”; NAB “impious”; NCV “separated from God.”
