Exodus 16:13
Context16:13 In the evening the quail 1 came up and covered the camp, and in the morning a layer of dew was all around the camp.
Psalms 78:26-29
Context78:26 He brought the east wind through the sky,
and by his strength led forth the south wind.
78:27 He rained down meat on them like dust,
birds as numerous as the sand on the seashores. 2
78:28 He caused them to fall right in the middle of their camp,
all around their homes.
78:29 They ate until they were stuffed; 3
he gave them what they desired.
Psalms 105:40
Context105:40 They asked for food, 4 and he sent quails;
he satisfied them with food from the sky. 5
[16:13] 1 sn These are migratory birds, said to come up in the spring from Arabia flying north and west, and in the fall returning. They fly with the wind, and so generally alight in the evening, covering the ground. If this is part of the explanation, the divine provision would have had to alter their flight paths to bring them to the Israelites, and bring them in vast numbers.
[78:27] 2 tn Heb “and like the sand of the seas winged birds.”
[78:29] 3 tn Heb “and they ate and were very satisfied.”
[105:40] 4 tn Heb “he [i.e., his people] asked.” The singular form should probably be emended to a plural שָׁאֲלוּ (sha’alu, “they asked”), the vav (ו) having fallen off by haplography (note the vav at the beginning of the following form).
[105:40] 5 tn Or “bread of heaven.” The reference is to manna (see Exod 16:4, 13-15).
