Ezekiel 20:13

20:13 But the house of Israel rebelled against me in the wilderness; they did not follow my statutes and they rejected my regulations (the one who obeys them will live by them), and they utterly desecrated my Sabbaths. So I decided to pour out 1  my rage on them in the wilderness and destroy them. 2

20:21 “‘But the children 3  rebelled against me, did not follow my statutes, did not observe my regulations by carrying them out (the one who obeys 4  them will live by them), and desecrated my Sabbaths. I decided to pour out 5  my rage on them and fully vent my anger against them in the wilderness.

5:13 Then my anger will be fully vented; I will exhaust my rage on them, and I will be appeased. 6  Then they will know that I, the Lord, have spoken in my jealousy 7  when I have fully vented my rage against them.

Since Israel’s relationship with God was often compared to a marriage this term is appropriate here. The term occurs elsewhere in Ezekiel in 8:3, 5; 16:38, 42; 23:25.

[7:8]  8 tn The expression “to pour out rage” also occurs in Ezek 9:8; 14:19; 20:8, 13, 21; 22:31; 30:15; 36:18.
