24:13 You mix uncleanness with obscene conduct. ¹ 

I tried to cleanse you, ²  but you are not clean.

You will not be cleansed from your uncleanness ³ 

until I have exhausted my anger on you.

Hebrews 6:4-8

6:4 For it is impossible in the case of those who have once been enlightened, tasted the heavenly gift, become partakers of the Holy Spirit, 6:5 tasted the good word of God and the miracles of the coming age, 6:6 and then have committed apostasy, ⁴  to renew them again to repentance, since ⁵  they are crucifying the Son of God for themselves all over again ⁶  and holding him up to contempt. 6:7 For the ground that has soaked up the rain that frequently falls on ⁷  it and yields useful vegetation for those who tend it receives a blessing from God. 6:8 But if it produces thorns and thistles, it is useless and about to be cursed; ⁸  its fate is to be burned.

Warning Against Drifting Away

2:1 Therefore we must pay closer attention to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away.

[24:13]  ¹ tn Heb “in your uncleanness (is) obscene conduct.”

[24:13]  ² tn Heb “because I cleansed you.” In this context (see especially the very next statement), the statement must refer to divine intention and purpose. Despite God’s efforts to cleanse his people, they resisted him and remained morally impure.
