Ezekiel 29:5

Context

29:5 I will leave you in the wilderness,

you and all the fish of your waterways;

you will fall in the open field and will not be gathered up or collected. 1

I have given you as food to the beasts of the earth and the birds of the skies.

Ezekiel 32:4

32:4 I will leave you on the ground,

I will fling you on the open field,

I will allow 2  all the birds of the sky to settle 3  on you,

and I will permit 4  all the wild animals 5  to gorge themselves on you.

Jeremiah 8:2

8:2 They will be spread out and exposed to the sun, the moon and the stars. 6  These are things they 7  adored and served, things to which they paid allegiance, 8  from which they sought guidance, and worshiped. The bones of these people 9  will never be regathered and reburied. They will be like manure used to fertilize the ground. 10

Jeremiah 22:19

His body will be dragged off and thrown outside the gates of Jerusalem.’” 11

[8:2]  7 tn Heb “the sun, moon, and host of heaven which they…”

[8:2]  8 tn Heb “followed after.” See the translator’s note at 2:5 for the idiom.

[8:2]  9 tn Heb “they will not” but the referent is far enough removed that it might be ambiguous.

[8:2]  10 tn Heb “like dung/manure on the surface of the ground.”

[22:19]  11 sn A similar judgment against this ungodly king is pronounced by Jeremiah in 36:30. According to 2 Chr 36:6 he was bound over to be taken captive to Babylon but apparently died before he got there. According to the Jewish historian Josephus, Nebuchadnezzar ordered his body thrown outside the wall in fulfillment of this judgment. The Bible itself, however, does not tell us that.
