Ezekiel 6:9

Context
6:9 Then your survivors will remember me among the nations where they are exiled. They will realize 1  how I was crushed by their unfaithful 2  heart which turned from me and by their eyes which lusted after their idols. They will loathe themselves 3  because of the evil they have done and because of all their abominable practices.

Ezekiel 20:43

20:43 And there you will remember your conduct 4  and all your deeds by which you defiled yourselves. You will despise yourselves 5  because of all the evil deeds you have done.

Ezekiel 36:31

Context
36:31 Then you will remember your evil behavior 6  and your deeds which were not good; you will loathe yourselves on account of your sins and your abominable deeds.

Zechariah 11:8

Context
11:8 Next I eradicated the three shepherds in one month, 7  for I ran out of patience with them and, indeed, they detested me as well.

[6:9]  1 tn The words “they will realize” are not in the Hebrew text; they are added here for stylistic reasons since this clause assumes the previous verb “to remember” or “to take into account.”

[6:9]  2 tn Heb “how I was broken by their adulterous heart.” The image of God being “broken” is startling, but perfectly natural within the metaphorical framework of God as offended husband. The idiom must refer to the intense grief that Israel’s unfaithfulness caused God. For a discussion of the syntax and semantics of the Hebrew text, see M. Greenberg, Ezekiel (AB), 1:134.

[6:9]  3 tn Heb adds “in their faces.”

[20:43]  4 tn Heb “ways.”

[20:43]  5 tn Heb “loathe yourselves in your faces.”

[36:31]  6 tn Heb “ways.”

[11:8]  7 sn Zechariah is only dramatizing what God had done historically (see the note on the word “cedars” in 11:1). The “one month” probably means just any short period of time in which three kings ruled in succession. Likely candidates are Elah, Zimri, Tibni (1 Kgs 16:8-20); Zechariah, Shallum, Menahem (2 Kgs 15:8-16); or Jehoiakim, Jehoiachin, Zedekiah (2 Kgs 24:125:7).
