[18:27]  1 tn The Hebrew term translated “Lord” here and in vv. 30, 31, 32 is אֲדֹנָי (’adonay).

[18:27]  2 tn The disjunctive clause is a concessive clause here, drawing out the humility as a contrast to the Lord.

[18:32]  3 tn Heb “he”; the referent (Abraham) has been specified in the translation for clarity.

[44:18]  4 tn Heb “Please my lord, let your servant speak a word into the ears of my lord.”

[44:18]  5 tn Heb “and let not your anger burn against your servant.”

[44:18]  6 sn You are just like Pharaoh. Judah’s speech begins with the fear and trembling of one who stands condemned. Joseph has as much power as Pharaoh, either to condemn or to pardon. Judah will make his appeal, wording his speech in such a way as to appeal to Joseph’s compassion for the father, whom he mentions no less than fourteen times in the speech.

[12:1]  7 tn Or “Lord, you are fair when I present my case before you.”

[12:1]  8 tn Heb “judgments” or “matters of justice.” For the nuance of “complain to,” “fair,” “disposition of justice” assumed here, see BDB 936 s.v. רִיב Qal.4 (cf. Judg 21:22); BDB 843 s.v. צַדִּיק 1.d (cf. Ps 7:12; 11:7); BDB 1049 s.v. מִשְׁפָּט 1.f (cf. Isa 26:8; Ps 10:5; Ezek 7:27).

[12:1]  9 tn Heb “Why does the way [= course of life] of the wicked prosper?”
