Genesis 2:2

2:2 By ¹  the seventh day God finished the work that he had been doing, ²  and he ceased ³  on the seventh day all the work that he had been doing.

Exodus 16:29-30

16:29 See, because the Lord has given you the Sabbath, that is why ⁴  he is giving you food for two days on the sixth day. Each of you stay where you are; ⁵  let no one ⁶  go out of his place on the seventh day.” 16:30 So the people rested on the seventh day.

Hebrews 4:4

4:4 For he has spoken somewhere about the seventh day in this way: “And God rested on the seventh day from all his works,” ⁷

[2:2]  ³ tn The Hebrew term שָׁבַּת (shabbat) can be translated “to rest” (“and he rested”) but it basically means “to cease.” This is not a rest from exhaustion; it is the cessation of the work of creation.
