31:29 I have ¹  the power to do you harm, but the God of your father told me last night, ‘Be careful ²  that you neither bless nor curse Jacob.’ ³

Land Robbers Will Lose their Land

2:1 Those who devise sinful plans are as good as dead, ⁴ 

those who dream about doing evil as they lie in bed. ⁵ 

As soon as morning dawns they carry out their plans, ⁶ 

because they have the power to do so.

[31:29]  ² tn Heb “watch yourself,” which is a warning to be on guard against doing something that is inappropriate.

[31:29]  ³ tn Heb “from speaking with Jacob from good to evil.” The precise meaning of the expression, which occurs only here and in v. 24, is uncertain. See the note on the same phrase in v. 24.

[2:1]  ⁴ tn Heb “Woe to those who plan sin.” The Hebrew term הוֹי (hoy, “woe”; “ah”) was a cry used in mourning the dead.

[2:1]  ⁵ tn Heb “those who do evil upon their beds.”
